Your android device is not just a phone, but a mobile computer. You can not only access your PC with your android phone, but also make it a Wi-Fi router. You can also use it as T.V., data server, webcam, touchpad, and remote. Lets take a look at what all can be done using your powerful android device…

Make a Wi-Fi Router:

If your android phone has a 2G or 3G data service then you can access the internet on other Wi-Fi enabled devices like tablets or laptops through your phone. This process is really simple on an android phone and you can do it easily. To activate this feature, go to your phone’s Settings option, click on Wireless Network tab, go to Tethering and Portable Hotspot menu and activate. After activation you can share the connection with other devices. But before starting this feature don’t forget to fully charge your battery.

Control your PC:

This is android’s special magic that you can access your PC through your phone using remote control. You can access the PC’s interface on your phone’s user interface with the help of a network. But for this to work the PC should be ON.

Mobile apps like Remote PC, android-vnc-viewer, TeamViewer can be downloaded from Play Store and used to access Desktop or Notebook. You can first install VNC server in your PC then android-vnc-viewer in your phone to access your PC.

Convert your phone into a Touchpad:

You can use your touch android phone like your PC’s mouse and keyboard. Think you are at home and don’t feel like using the PC’s mouse and keyboard, so just download RemoteDroid or gPad on your phone from Google Play and convert your phone’s touch screen into a PC mouse. These apps can control the PC’s cursor. With this if your phone has a built-in keyboard you can do typing also.

Make your Phone a Wireless Speaker:

Your PC doesn't have a speaker but u want to listen music then you can listen to songs saved on your PC through your androids speaker. SoundWire is one such application that users can install on their phone from the Play Store. Another software needs to be downloaded in your PC, which can be downloaded here. On running the software on PC an IP address will be shown after which you have to run the SoundWire app installed on your phone and input the IP address in it. Now you can listen to music saved on your PC.

Use as Webcam:

If your desktop PC doesn't have a webcam and you want to do video chat or video conferencing, you can download DroidCam application from Google Play and use your phone’s camera as a webcam. You just need to connect your phone to Wi-Fi. You can also send live video feeds recorded from your phone’s camera directly to your PC. For this you have to sign up for free on Ustream. After that you have to download the app on your phone and fill in the username and password. You can live broadcast any concert, award function or marriage ceremony and your friends and relatives can see the live footage.

Create a Data Server:

USB cable cannot be carried in the pocket always. But if you need to transfer some data from PC to phone or phone to PC, that to, without a data cable then what will you do? So why not convert the phone into a data server. FTPDroid or FTPServer apps can be downloaded from Google Play Store to convert your phone into a FTP or web server. You can also run a small site by registering the website details in the phone’s FTP server and upload the content from the phone. These apps have the special feature that you can connect notebooks, desktops and other devices to your phone.

Use as a Torrent Downloader:

If you use torrents a lot then you can also use your phone for downloading the files. There are many such torrent apps, which can be installed on android phones, and enable users to download the files directly on their phones. You can install uTorrent from Google Play directly on your mobile. It would be better to use the torrents on Wi-Fi so you don’t have to worry much about the data usage.

Make Surveillance Camera:

You will be amazed to know that you can convert your phone into a spy-cam or surveillance-cam. It’s difficult to keep an eye on your house during your absence. For this either invest in CCTV or make your phone into a surveillance camera. IP Webcam can be downloaded from Google Play and installed on your phone. As soon as there is some movement in your house it will automatically start streaming and you can see the live feed on VLC Media Player or directly on a browser. You can also click photos immediately if you want.

Live Streaming on TV:

With the help of DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) you can play videos, photographs or music, saved in your mobile, on your T.V. BubbleUPnp is one such application that can be downloaded on your mobile from Google Play Store. For this your T.V. should be DLNA compatible. You can also access the content on your DLNA compatible tablet or HTPC (Home Theatre PC). After installing this app you can access videos, photographs stored on your mobile from these devices. This app connects both devices through Wi-Fi.

SMS alert on PC:

Many times your phone gets switched of due to battery problem. You can access the important messages and calls missed during that time on your PC. You have to pay additional charges for missed call alert during phone switch off. One such software is MightyText. Through this application users can access all call alerts and SMS like instant messenger on their PC. You can also send SMS from your PC.
