Google Play Updates to Change our casual Gaming Experience

In a presentation by Duncan Curtis, he revealed all that's new with Google Play.
The main goals for the new Play Experience is a central profile management and increasing game engagement.

Game Profiles

Have your own Level in the entire "Play World". You could be Level 20 Jim, and tell everyone how much of a gaming freak you are.
How is leveling system works is by gaining points

  • Every game will get to allocate a total of 1000 points, ie the more games you play the more points you can gain.
  • You gain points by completing game achievements say defeating a boss or completing some levels.

I'm still not sure how giving points will work across games with different difficulties. Depending on the game it could be hard or easy to gain points, and a "true" gamer will always play the hard games. So Google Play shows he is less of a gamer?

You can also compare this profile with your friends.
Something interesting is that you are given a title according to categories you have most points in!
You'll get titles like "SpeedRacer" that would mean you mostly plays racing games or "Puzzle Master" for people loving puzzle games.

Quests

Quests are time bound missions, set by the developers of the game.
Think of it as daily or weekly challenges in the game. Completing quests will give you rewards.
The new Play API and developer console makes it very easy for a game developer to create quests and rewards for its users.
The developer console will provide all the monitoring, analytics and too without changing their games.
The play app will keep showing you the Current quests for all the games you have played, so you may re-engage on an old game.

Save Game Anywhere

Now games will be saved in the cloud so you can resume playing where you left anywhere.

The Play games app will properly show a thumbnail with a screenshot of your save, a description, and a timestamp, so you will be able to just look and know if it is the point you want to resume from.
